I’m a 23 year old female and I will be backpacking Europe alone next summer. I will have a month to travel and I have no idea where to visit, but I want to keep the cost as low as possible. Thanks for your help!

This is an open-ended question, as there are so many things I could tell you. But the best advice I can give you, not just from a financial point of view, is to become a couch surfer. It is the best way to meet cool and interesting people from all walks of life. I’ve been traveling all over the world like that and I only met wonderful people, most of whom are not friends. Check it out, you won’t regret it.
I suggest visiting some of the old cities, paris, rome, athens, sofia, warsaw, copenhagen.
It also depends on your preference, the alps are worth a visit. Use local buses instead of taxi’s, taxi’s are very expensive and the drivers often overcharge tourists.
Go to Eastern Europe, it is cheaper. Also consider taking a tent and staying at camping sites.
As for “going where”, go to your local library and check out old guidebooks on Europe. Read them back to cover and take notes about what you’d like to see.
Then when you are ready to go, get your hands on the latest edition of “Let’s Go Europe”, “Lonely Planet Europe on a shoestring” or “Rough Guide Europe”. (Never use an old guidebook – I had to learn that the hard way.)
You’ll need at least 50 EUR per day and person. That amount covers food from the supermarket, stay at a hostel dorm and one sight per day.
